    • DEVITT Nance Eileen 1921; daughter of William George Devit and Catherine nee Welsh; born 9th March 1921. She met Allan Fisher at a dance at Barnawartha and the couple were married on 15th February 1947 at All Soul?s Church of England, Barnawartha.

The Chiltern Federal Standard, Friday, February 28, 1947 - FISHER-DEVITT WEDDING
The marriage was celebrated at All Saint?s Church, Barnawartha (which was decorated by friends of the bride) on Saturday, February 15, of Nance Eileen, younger daughter of Mr and Mrs W G Devitt, of Barnawartha South, and Allan Sherwood, second son of Mr and Mrs T Fisher, “Fernbank”, Brown?s Plains. The Rev G Smith-Gray performed the ceremony. The bride was given away by her father, and had her sister, Miss Mary Devitt, and the bridegroom?s cousin, Miss Sheila Griffin, of Melbourne, as the bridesmaids. The white satin bridal gown had a heart-shaped neck, finished with orange blossom. The skirt fell from a shaped waistline to form a long train. The tulle veil, loaned by Mrs Garton, was held with a coronet of orange blossom, and the bridal bouquet was of tuberoses, frangipani and gladioli. The bridesmaids carried bouquets of pink carnations, gladioli and blue delphiniums, with their frocks of dusty pink satin-back crepe, which were trimmed with silver sequins. They wore mittens to match their tulle shoulder-length veils, which were held with topknots which matched their bouquets. They also wore aquamarine pendants, gifts of the bridegroom. The bridegroom had his brother, Mr Edwin Fisher, as best man, and the bride?s brother, Mr Patrick Devitt, as groomsman. During the signing of the register, Miss Joan Griffin of Melbourne, sang a solo, and Mr Fisher, father of the bridegroom, was organist. Mrs Devitt and Mrs Fisher received the 80 guests at the Soldier?s Memorial Hall, Barnawartha, where the Rev Smith-Gray presided at the breakfast. Mrs Devitt wore a frock of black satin-back crepe, trimmed with moonshine bugle beads; her shoulder spray was of red gladioli. Mrs Fisher?s frock was of …..ral grafton, (?floral chiffon) and she wore a shoulder posy of tiger lilies. The bridegroom?s gift to the bride was a travelling case; the bride?s gift to the groom was a travelling rug. When leaving for Sydney, where the honeymoon is being spent, the bride wore a smart grey tailored suit with navy cloque and navy accessories. The three tiered cake was made by the bride?s sister. Many gifts and cheques were received and 50 telegrams were read. Mr and Mrs A S Fisher will reside at “Burrabunnia”, Barnawartha. Guests were entertained at a dance in the Memorial Hall following the reception and breakfast.
