An interesting double wedding was celebrated at Boweya, near Wangaratta, on Tuesday, when Miss Evelyn Welsh, third daughter of Mr E J Welsh, was married to Mr Roderick Langdon, only son of Mr W H Langdon, Wahgunyah, and Miss Catherine Welsh, second daughter of Mr Welsh, was married to Mr William Devitt, eldest son of the late Mr P Devitt, Upper Indigo, Barnawartha. The brides were given away by their father. In the former wedding Miss M Langdon was bridesmaid, and in the latter Miss Maud Langdon acted in a similar capacity. Mr R Welsh was best man in each instance. The ceremonies were performed by Rev Mr Clemons, Benalla, assisted by Rev Mr Perkins. Wedding breakfast was served at the residence of the parents. Mr and Mrs Langdon will reside at Daysdale and the future home of Mr and Mrs Devitt will be at Barnawartha.

William G Devitt of Upper Indigo, who has gained some fame in the growing of water melons, brought one to our office on Saturday, a monster, 34 lbs in weight, 28 inches in girth and 23 inches in length. The flesh of it was pronounced delicious by all those who were privileged to obtain a slice.

The death occurred in the Yackandandah Bush Nursing Hospital on Friday, May 30, of Mr William George Devitt, of Upper Indigo. The son of the late Mr and Mrs Patrick Devitt (nee Mary Boyce) deceased was born at Upper Indigo and lived there all his life. He was a highly respected farmer and as a side-line carried goods. He lived a most active life and he and his wife, Catherine, were most philanthropic. He was in hospital for only a couple of days. Left to mourn their loss are his devoted wife Catherine, and the following children: Mary (Mrs G Crosse), Nance (Mrs A Fisher) and son Patrick. He was aged 87 years. The funeral cortege left the home of his daughter, Mrs Crosse, after a service by the Rev Blazely, Presbyterian minister, interment taking place in the Barnawartha cemetery. The casket was carried by Messrs John Fisher and Bill Crosse (grandsons), Bill Elligate and Harry Langdon (nephews). The pall-bearers were Messrs Pat Elligate, Bernie Johnson, Geo Crosse, Allan Welsh and J Draper. Messrs Douglas and Todd had charge of the mortuary arrangements.
