The Federal Standard, Saturday, October 9, 1880 p2 c7 - NEWS AND NOTES
A sad accident, which unfortunately terminated fatally, happened to Thomas Boyce, son of Mr Boyce, farmer, Upper Indigo. It appears he was out riding with an elder brother in one of the paddocks, when he had occasion to dismount, and when attempting to remount and had had just got his foot in the stirrup, his horse started off, dragging him some distance, when he was brought in contact with a sharp piece of timber, inflicting a frightful wound in the groin and thigh. He lay about twenty minutes before his brother found him, during which time he had been bleeding profusely. He was quickly conveyed home, and Dr Haley was immediately sent for, on his arrival he was almost pulseless, and sank within half an hour from loss of blood and shock to the nervous system.
